GRIEF AND RESISTANCE TO CHANGE
Loss and grief are a part of life. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a pet, a relationship, a job, independence, or even moving cities, not everything stays the same. Some changes and losses are more difficult for us than others. Some we plan for, prepare for, and even look forward to the other side of the coin of loss/change….newness. Some of us like newness and welcome it, some of us avoid it at all costs, and for others, we may have mixed emotions about it, which is normal.
No matter your loss or grief, there may come a time when you want to process all of the emotions that come with your experience. Perhaps to better understand the situation, or to better understand yourself. Or, if you are feeling “stuck” in the grief and your sadness, you may have symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. You can learn new tools for your toolbox to deal with these new feelings.
Everyone grieves differently and for different lengths of time for any given situation. There is no one “right way” to grieve and there are misconceptions to Elizabeth Kubler-Ross’ Five Stages of Grief that we’d love to help you understand more fully so you realize how normal your grieving process is. Sometimes people need permission to not be done grieving and sometimes people need permission to stop grieving. Only you can give yourself that permission but sometimes it’s helpful to hear from a mental health professional that your way of grieving is completely normal and to be expected given your circumstances.
We are here for you, to help you find what’s best for you, not to impart what we think is best for you. We can gently guide you to figure this out for yourself and be a companion and helpmate along the way.
We look forward to working with you.
