chronic illness
Chronic illness is oftentimes hard to diagnose but, just because it sometimes takes more than one doctor to identify your suffering doesn’t mean it isn’t real pain.
A chronic illness is an illness or a disease that is ongoing for more than three months. Common chronic illnesses include Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), fibromyalgia, arthritis, COPD, cancer, Lyme disease, asthma, and cancer. However, there are additional chronic illnesses that must be considered when someone says they are suffering and are looking for treatment through therapy.
While chronic illness can be treated by medication, it can also be managed by mindfulness.
The Mindfulness Center’s own Elizabeth McCormack, LMFT, specializes in the care of individuals living with chronic illness and their family members who are also affected. She has a plethora of mindfulness ideas and practices that are aimed at reducing the stress and anxiety that individuals with chronic illness face in their day-to-day lives.
