Elizabeth McCormack, MAMFT, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Finding the right therapist, who understands what you are going through, is essential to creating change. The right fit makes all the difference on the journey to feeling better–not just for you but for everyone in your family. I embrace life with authenticity and humor, which my clients experience in my informal and relaxed style in my work.
I partner with my clients to foster healing and wholeness. I help them process traumas, work on life’s stressors, and confront conflict through cognitive behavioral education and mindfulness techniques. I am eager to hear your stories and understand the challenges you face. As an outside observer, I can help you discover and understand cognitive distortions – the places in life that aren’t quite matching up or feel confusing.
My specialties are working with adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, and complicated grief, as well as couples and families to improve communication and help them see from new angles and perspectives.
About Me
I began my studies at Hanover College. I continued my education at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary graduating with masters degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and Divinity.
Since the early 2000’s I have practiced in different settings: a boys’ group home, a domestic violence shelter, and community mental health center. My favorite setting is private practice because of the diversity found there. Currently, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Kentucky and Florida.
I was born in the Midwest and lived there most of my life. Ten years ago my family moved to Florida. I’m married and have two teenage sons and a hyperactive dog named Brigitta. I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling. I’m a fiercely loyal friend and love spending time with family.
As a therapist I partner with my clients to foster healing and wholeness. I help them process traumas, work on life’s stressors, and confront conflict through cognitive behavioral education and mindfulness techniques. I love working with couples and families to improve communication and help them see other perspectives. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and complicated grief. I’m now offering EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing.) Sometimes memories are incorrectly processed and can cause uncomfortable sensations. EMDR helps to reprocess those memories and repair a maladaptive memory network so that we are no longer troubled by distressing thoughts from our past.
Currently, I am accepting private pay clients as well as those seeking to use their commercial Humana insurance (not Medicare or Medicaid, sorry!). I am considered out-of-network with other commercial insurance companies. Be sure to contact your particular insurance company for authorization and a claims form we’ll need to fill out and submit. I am no longer accepting commercial Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Due to my high demand for services, please email me (Elizabeth@Mindfulness-Center.com) if you want to book a New Client Appointment and don’t see any available in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to hearing from you!
